This year we are focusing on continuing to execute on our overall plan with a focus on creating the structure needed for on-going projects. Our goal is to work with the extended FSES family and to build the vision of the garden through immediate FSES and extended community outreach projects. The Franklin Sherman Elementary School Learning Garden was established in 2011 as a team effort between parents, students and teachers. The garden began in a fenced in area adjacent to the kiss-and-ride drive through and has expanded to include a sunflower patch, blueberries and young trees through the rear lawns of the school. The goals of the garden are to provide a resource for outside learning, stimulate curiosity about nature and life cycles, and expose students to the concepts of natural resources and community development. We hope that the additional benefits from our garden are limitless!

We are currently working to connect with a curriculum already in place within our school system so that it is available to our teachers and students during the year. We also want to welcome and encourage them to use the learning garden in other ways to support different aspects of the school day.

As the Learning Garden is a product of our local FSES community, we hope to involve as many parents, children and our extended FSES family as are interested in joining us through out the year at different events. Please come visit our blog to follow our activities during the year.
